Dear friends,
This Sunday, we are setting aside our usual liturgy of the Holy Eucharist for a service of Nine Lessons and Carols. This much-loved service, which dates to 1918 at King’s College in Cambridge, England, brings together the reading of Scripture and the singing of Christmas carols. Each of the nine lessons, drawn from the Old and New Testaments, tells the story of God's promise of salvation and the birth of Jesus Christ, from the prophecy of his coming to the joyful celebration of His birth. Between each reading, we will lift our voices in cherished carols that echo the season's hope and joy. This service is a wonderful way to prepare our hearts for Christmas, and I encourage you to bring your family, friends, and loved ones to share in this special occasion.
We will also continue to hear stories from members of our church family about how they came to faith. We have called this feature of our services, “Let every heart prepare Him room.” I have heard much positive feedback, as we have listened to Andrea Soberg, David Heuren, and Ann Spencer. This week, I will be chatting with Ross Pearson about his story.
So, friends, let us come together to celebrate this last Sunday before Christmas in a meaningful and joyous way as we await the birth of our Savior.
Fr. Ken
